Health Promotion Programming

In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 9% of the county’s population

• By 2030 the population 65 and older will increase 142% to 26,168 people. This group will make up 17% of the county’s population, one of the highest projected growths in the state.
• Compared to the state, older adults are better educated (32% have graduate degrees), 32% live in rural areas, the racial distribution is similar, and 23% have two or more disabilities.
• The median income is higher; fewer older adults are at the poverty level.
• Falls are ranked third as the reason for hospitalization.
