In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 12% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 124% to 18,810 people. This group will make up 18% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are less educated, 62% live in rural areas (62%), 94% are white (94%) and there is less disability.
• The median income is lower than the state for both the 65-74 and 75+ age groups. Similar numbers of older adults are at or below the poverty level.
• There were 17 Code Orange days in 2006.
