In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 16% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 66% to 2,707 people. This group will make up 25% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are less educated, 100% live in rural areas, there are more baby boomers, 36% are African Americans, and 33% have two or more disabilities.
• The median income for 65-74 year olds is significantly less, but it is similar for age 75+. More in the 65-74 age group are at or below the poverty level.
