• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 70% to 4,166 people. This group will make up 15% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are less educated, have more disability (31% have two or more), 100% live in rural areas, and 32% are African American.
• The median income is significantly lower than the state, and 27% of adults age 75+ are below the poverty level.
• Designated as a Primary Medical Care Shortage Area in 2006.
