In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 10% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 146% to 14,133 people. This group will make up 16% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults make up a larger portion of the population, are less educated, more live in rural areas (92%), there are more African Americans, and there is slightly more disability.
• The median income is lower for all age groups, and there are similar levels of poverty.
• There were more hospital admissions due to respiratory problems.
