In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 15% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 116% to 10,958 people. This group will make up 22% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are better educated (21% have graduate degrees), have fewer disabilities, 31% are in rural areas, and 97% are white.
• 31% are baby boomers.
• The median income is almost one-third higher than the state average, and fewer individuals live at the poverty level.
• In 2000, there were no older adults over 65 living in nursing homes.
