In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 14% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 51% to 7,080 people. This age group will make up 20% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are less educated, 89% live in rural areas, 33% are African American, and 34% have two or more disabilities.
• More older adults are at or below the poverty level.
• Arthritis and diabetes are common chronic conditions, accounting for 23% of physician visits.
