In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 13% of the county’s population
• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 70% to 31,371 people. This age group will make up 17% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults have similar education levels, racial distribution, levels of disability, and similar numbers live in rural areas.
• Those over age 75 are the poorest, with 29% at the poverty level.
• Heart disease tops hospitalizations and outpatient visits.
• Arthritis and diabetes account for 21% of physician visits.
